G36    ZEPHANIAH

Whereas the majority of the Minor Prophets concentrate upon Israel or Judah, this prophet appears to enlarge the scene and envisages a cosmic judgement, the "Day of the Lord". The book opens with overtones of the Noah story; but soon concentrates on Israel's sin and judgement. Nevertheless the thought of a universal "Day of Wrath" is still envisaged.
Zephaniah 1.vv.1-16, v.18 and 2.vv.1-3

The concept of a disciplining of the nations is taken up again in Chapter 3 but Jerusalem is still to be paramount among them all.
Zephaniah 3.vv.8-20
