The style of this little book is racy. One can hear even in translation the clamour of war, the rush of horses and warriors as the prophet describes the ruin of Nineveh the city so hated by those enslaved by Assyria. Knowing how ruthless a foe Assyria was to her neighbours, one can understand the prophet's excitement and joy at the prospect of that city's downfall. This, says the prophet, is God's judgement upon a cruel foe and His promised salvation for His people.
