The Höffgen brothers

[Poppy Appeal 2005 - register for a digital poppy on your website] In January 2001, I received an email from Roland Fogt. He had visited these pages, and asked if I would like to include a few WW1 photographs in his possession. These photographs are shown here. They are of his grandfather, Wilhelm Höffgen, and his grandfather's older brother, Karl. I'm grateful to Roland for letting me include them in this collection of WW1 photographs.

Wilhelm Höffgen was born on 26 January 1899 and his older brother Karl was born on 9 November 1890 in the village of Elberfeld, Westfalia, Germany. Both served in and survived WW1. Karl was wounded and decorated (illustrated below) while serving in Field Artillery Regiment 13 (unit pin shown below). Wilhelm would later be called back into the reserves in the opening months of WW2, then later called up again in the last few months of WW2. He returned home in 1946 after serving as a POW.
