HELLO, I'M A DUCK

I'm of the Khaki Campbell breed.
A very old breed of duck.

Most of the ducks here are Khaki Campbells or Indian Runners. The Khaki Campbells hold the world record for egg-laying - 367 eggs in a year (yeah, work that out!). It's a misconception that all duck eggs taste fishy. The eggs that do, are from the Aylesbury duck (the white ones, like in the BT ad). Now they are a meaty duck, whilst we Khakis are only interested in laying eggs ... with hard alabaster white shells and a yolk that's deep yellow and stands up proud in the frying pan ...

Life here for a duck is good. There are two ponds to swim in and lots of undergowth to rummage around in. Of course, our main job is to patrol the garden in search of that nasty pest the slug. Our beaks are evolved for filtering and preening, and a gang of us can waddle through the whole garden in an afternoon, clearing it of aphids, slugs and other bugs.

The chickens aren't allowed into the garden area because they are stupid, and you know I even think they are scared of us.

Our only real danger here is the fox, but the dog and the humans are fairly good at keeping an eye out for the fox, even though their eyes aren't anything like as good as ours.

... I can see for miles ...

The humans are good at building though, especially that big Scottish one. Our duckhouse is foxproof, although getting into it is fairly difficult. With all this computer stuff in the farmhouse, I suppose it's only a matter of time before they sort us out with security cards. Ha! I wonder how the chickens are going to handle that?

By the way, there's no such thing as an ugly duckling, we're all beautiful.
Who are you calling ugly, anyway?
