How to install the Micom/Zoltrix HSP Modem Port and Modem driver.
QUICK INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove the existing HSP modem port and modem driver from the
Control Panel.
2. Install the new HSP port driver.
3. Install the new modem driver.
4. Restart Win95.
REMOVING THE EXISTING HSP MODEM PORT DRIVER
1. Double click on the "System" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Device Manager" Tab.
3. Double click on "Ports (COM & LPT)".
4. Click on the "PCtel HSP Modem Communications Port".
5. Click on the "Remove" button.
6. Click on the "OK" button to verify that you want to remove the port.
REMOVING THE EXISTING MODEM DRIVER
1. Double click on the "System" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Device Manager" Tab.
3. Double click on "Modem".
4. Click on "HSP 336 DELUXE MODEM".
5. Click on the "Remove" button.
6. Click on the "OK" button to verify that you want to remove the
modem driver.
Now that the old drivers are removed, you can install the new drivers per the instructions found in the manual.
Following are the instructions found in chapter 2 of the manual.
2 Introduction
The Micom/Zoltrix Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem is designed to operate in Windows 95 only. In addition, the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem complete solution allows the modem to be upgraded with enhancements and features through software upgrades rather than a chip change or a board swap.
2.1 Windows 95 Software Setup {non PnP model}
To setup the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem (non PnP model), you must complete the following installation procedure:
2.1.1 Setup Com Port for the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem {non PnP model}
1. Double click the "Add New hardware" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Next" button.
3. Click on No
(when Win95 asks Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware).
4. Click on the "Next" button.
5. Scroll down the list and select Ports (COM & LPT)
6. Click on the "Next" button.
7. Click on the "Have Disk" button.
8. Insert the diskette with the updated driver into drive A:
9. Click the "OK" button.
10. Click on the "Next" button to proceed with the installation.
11. Click on the "Next" button again to proceed with the installation.
12. Click on the "Finish" button to complete the Port installation.
Note: DO NOT SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER YET!
Follow the instructions in section 2.1.2 to install the Windows 95 modem driver before you reboot the system.
2.1.2 Setup modem driver for the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem {non PnP model}
1. Double click on the "Modems" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Add" button.
3. Click on the box located next to the Don't detect my modem;
I will select it from a list
4. Click on the "Next" button.
5. Click on the "Have Disk" button.
6. Insert the diskette with the updated driver into drive A:
7. Click the "OK" button.
8. Click on the HSP 336-DELUXE MODEM.
9. Click on the "Next" button.
10. Click on the PCtel HSP Modem Communications Port that you previously installed.
11. Click on the "Next" button.
12. Click on the "Finish" button to complete the modem driver installation.
13. Now that you have completed the driver installation, you MUST Restart Windows 95! 2.1.3 Testing the modem driver for the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem {non PnP model}
After installing the software drivers and restarting Windows 95, use the following procedure to verify that the Win HSP Voice/Speaker Phone/Modem is working.
1. Double click on the "Modems" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Diagnostics" tab.
3. Click on the port the HSP Modem is assigned to.
4. Click on the "More Info..." button to allow Windows 95 to query the modem.
Windows 95 will give you a short report on the status.
If Windows 95 reports "Couldn't open port", you need to verify that the port settings of the HSP port is not conflicting with any other devices.
2.1.4 Checking the HSP port settings for conflicts {non PnP model}
1. Double click on the "System" ICON in the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Device Manager" tab.
3. Double Click on "Ports (COM & LPT)"
4. Click on the PCtel HSP Modem Communication Port.
5. Click on the "Properties" button.
6. Click on the "Resources" tab.
7. Click on the arrow to the right of Basic configuration 0 and select Basic configuration 1.
8. Click on "Interrupt Request".
9. Click on the "Change Setting..." button.
10. Click on the up or down arrow next to the Value field to select
another IRQ.
Note: Make sure that the information displayed in the Conflict Information
window says "No devices are conflicting".
11. Click the "OK" button to exit the Edit Interrupt Request Window.
12. Click the "OK" button to exit the Modem Communication Port Properties Window.
13. Click on the "Yes" button to Shut Down Windows 95.
14. Restart the computer and follow the directions in section
(2.1.3 Testing the modem driver for the Win HSP Voice/Speaker
Phone/Modem {non PnP model})
Note: If the modem still does not function, you should go threw the steps
in this section again, but when selecting the Basic Configuration,
select the next configuration and retest. Continue this process
until you find a address and IRQ that is available for use.
