EXPORTING EXPERTISE FOR PROCESSORS
SHETLAND processing companies were invited to pick the brains of exporting experts last month at a workshop arranged by Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Experts in the field of food exporting with particular knowledge of the German, French and Spanish markets were on hand to offer advice to participating Shetland Companies.
The workshop was part of the Scotland-wide "Food Exports Europe" Programme, co-organised by the Enterprise Network and Scottish Trade International. As well as export surgeries, the programme has included market research projects and trade missions relevant to Scottish food exporters.
The processors were given a free, one-hour consultation with the experts of their choice. If appropriate and if the companies wished to use the consultants expertise further, the Programme offers financial assistance for additional help with specific exporting projects.
Robert Hogg of the Laurel Group, who coordinated the Shetland event, said it was intended to offer processors the opportunity to access instant, practical help on exporting issues which are directly relevant to them. "We tend to get very positive feedback from companies after these events because they usually come away with actual answers on an issue or problem about which they were uncertain."
