If you every get a chance, do visit Painshill Park in Cobham. Not only will you see a superb formal garden, marvellously restored to it's Victorian splendour, but you might also chance to meet Janie Burford, who is precisely as radiant a person as her portrait suggests. Full marks to her for getting up and coming to Painshill for 8am in early April, even more so for gamely sitting on a damp concrete floor for half and hour and remaining as delightful as she looks. We had a great time. Her love for the park and the delight she takes in the trees and flora were self evident. No wonder it is such a well cared for place.
