Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, spoke about the charity most movingly. Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland has raised £681,000 to fully equip the ophthalmic operating theatre on the Africa Mercy, the world’s largest charity hospital ship. The theatre will treat more than 1500 patients each year. The ship is staffed by more than 450 volunteers from around the world and provides free medical care to 7,000 patients annually. It set sail to Liberia on its maiden voyage at the start of May.
Rotary Clubs are now raising funds towards the cost of the Rotary International Lounge. The total cost will be £340,000. Among articles purchased for the lounge are more than 450 chairs, tables, bookcases, TV screens, curtains carpets and much more.
Miss Rosemary Wheeler and Mr Rex Freeman, members of the Royal Society of Saint George, entertained with music, song and poetry of the sea. The Sea Cadet Corps provided a guard of honour. Rotary Club President Margaret Hebblethwaite presented a cheque to Judy for £250. A buffet followed.

Following on from the successful Safari Suppers held in previous years it was decided to make the event this year a Lunch.
The principle reason for the change was to allow more time for each course and consequently, more time to socialize at the end.
10 members and their partners took part this year and they were accompanied by an equal number of guests, a slight decrease on our last event but nevertheless enough to make it a worthwhile occasion.
Main Courses and Sweets were the order of the day and all of the 10 members/partners who took part provided a varied and adequate selection of food for us all to partake of.
The event culminated in the now usual and very hospitable way with coffee and liqueurs being provided as guests of Sue and Ken Parkin.
The sum raised was about £200.00 which will form part of our contribution to Rotary Foundation.

A very interesting talk by an expert, throwing light on our Roman and Medieval history. Two, so far, unidentified skeletons were uncovered.

On 21st December, 22 Rotarians and friends went to the Christmas 'End of the Pier 'show at The Pavilion, Cromer. We enjoyed an amusing and entertaining afternoon. Afterwards, we went on to Sheringham and had our Fish 'n Chips Supper at Dave's Fish Bar and Restaurant. A perfect finish to a good day out completed by the Christmas Lights of Chatteris on our return home.
