How To Announce Your Site
After you get your site running and are ready to go public, you should announce
to the following locations:
- Your company, university, or organization main site.
- Submit-It! -
A page that offers interfaces to submit to several search services from one
location.
- The NCSA Mosaic What's New Page. This page
is read by many, many people so be ready for hundreds or even thousands of connections for the next week or so.
- The CERN Registry.
This is the most official site, as CERN started it all. Registration can take days, weeks, or even months to process, though.
- Appropriate mailing lists, such as www-announce or mailing lists whose topic is related to special items of interest at
your site.
- Appropriate newsgroups, in particular comp.infosystems.www and
comp.infosystems.announce, as well as
newsgroups whose topic is related to special items of interest at your site.
- The ALIWEB Indexor.
- Robots. You 'announce' to them by not refusing them admission, at least at first. There are several robots that just
run around looking for new sites, so they'll probably find you in the first couple of weeks. They will add your site to their
searchable indices such as the CUI W3 Catalog.
