Using Linux as a platform seems to have some strong advantages. It has been written in 32 bits right from the start. Also the source code is available. A lot of the hard work of device interfacing has been done. Programming would be done in C++. |

Drawbacks include less wide PC base, size, and unnecessary excess baggage that wouldn't happen from assembler. It would be slower too. Possibilities for massively parallel computing may be harmed. However, all things considered this seems the favourite at the moment. |
