G47   PHILIPPIANS

(As most of the book is recommended here, this is better read from the Bible. Hyperlinks are therefore not provided - PN)

The tone and contents of this letter amply attest the confidence that inspired St. Paul in his imprisonment for the gospel.
Philippians 1.vv.1-30

The Apostle enjoins humility upon the community of believers after the example of Christ, who laid aside his heavenly attributes to become man.
Philippians 2.vv.1-11

Despite his sufferings and the uncertainty of his earthly prospects, St. Paul not only bids his fellow Christians to have peace and joy, but knows and experiences them himself. He commends the generosity shown by the Church on his and others' behalf.
Philippians 4.v.1, vv.4-9, vv.15-23
