G31   OBADIAH

The word "Obadiah" means "Servant of the Lord". Who he was we cannot tell.

This little book takes us back to the quarrel of Jacob and Esau in the Patriarchal Period. The sustained hostility of the descendants of these two brothers is here elaborated into a solemn warning to the Edomites (Esau) not to gloat over Israel (Jacob) in their day of calamity, for the "Day of the Lord" comes upon all the nations and Zion will be saved.
