G22 THE SONG OF SOLOMON
Unlike the sad book Ecclesiastes which precedes it, this book breathes an atmosphere of joy. The reason for this contrast is simply that the "Song" is a series of secular love songs associated with betrothal and marriage. Since it is included in Holy Scripture, some people have regarded it as a picture of the love of God for His people (the "bride" of God).
A popular and restrained example of the love song is occasionally found, but there are no explicit references to God or to religion.
