G19   PSALMS
(As so many sections are recommended here, no hyperlinks are used - PN)

Literally and figuratively at the very heart of the Bible we have the Psalter (the book of Psalms), a veritable storehouse of spiritual inspiration for Jew and Christian alike.

The Psalms have been so beloved by all the major Christian denominations that, with a few exceptions, we include them in this shortened Bible.

In some instances there are certain 'verses' in the Psalms that are omitted because they include thoughts of vengeance and cruelty, but we should not be surprised that the Jews sought vengeance upon their enemies, nor that they opened their hearts to God in prayers, telling Him not only what they desired but also telling Him what He should do!

Some Psalms (96, 105, 106) are omitted because they are included in the study of Deuteronomy.

There are may good commentaries and devotional books written on the Psalms, so that it is unnecessary to categorise them and to attempt to interpret them in this study. All who love the Psalms would agree that to a very large extent they speak for themselves.
