Visitors' Book - Acceptable Use Policy
  1. The Visitor Book is not for sending emails to the club committee or members of the club/team. There is no guarantee that they will read the message. Please use email instead. Email links to Club Officials are available on this website.
  2. All fields in the form must be completed. A correct email address should be given. Where the IP address does not match the email address given, the entry may be discarded. Email addresses are now encoded to prevent automated email address harvesters gathering them for spamming purposes.
  3. Impersonation of another, or attempting to post using the name of another person without their express and explicit consent, will be regarded as a serious breach of these terms and conditions, and may lead to the sender being barred from the website for a period of time at the discretion of the Webmaster, including an indefinite period of time.
  4. Please do not send entries in all upper case letters (capitals). Every computer has a shift key. Please use it. ALL CAPITAL ENTRIES will at best be delayed, at worst disregarded.
  5. Please use correct English. The website is the public face of Gateshead Senators and read by people all over the world, including some for whom English is a second language. Entries are now passed through a syntax checker for readability. Entries are not restricted to 168 characters so there is no need to use SMS shortcuts. It's also often an indication of spam. Minor errors of English may be indicated by square brackets [ ] to help non English speaking readers see that it is non standard. Entries which are so poor that the meaning is lost to such readers may be consigned to the bit bucket.
  6. For location, please enter the name of a town/city etc. The Visitor Book is read by people anywhere in the world and entries such as "Wor Hoose" mean little to them. Where appropriate, such locations will be replaced by a default, which may not what the sender wants, e.g. Makems could end up 'in' Newcastle.
  7. Robust discussion is to be expected. Personal abuse and foul language is not. All entries should be in a spirit of sportsmanship, especially among fellow players of the game, whatever their team. Anonymous and/or abusive entries will be removed as quickly as possible. Persistent abusers may be barred.
  8. The Visitor Book is protected by a series of unique, sophisticated spam traps. This should cover all the points mentioned above, and attempts to spam the Visitor Book with advertisements (which happens frequently) will almost certainly fail. So don't bother. The downside is that very small number of legitimate entries may also be discarded. The Webmaster checks the bit bucket occasionally, but if your entry hasn't appeared in a reasonable time, check to see if you have fulfilled all the requirements.
  9. Try to keep entries brief and to the point. All previous entries back to 1996 are still available, but excessive length may require earlier entries to be discarded, which would be a bit of club history lost. The Senators' website already uses over 20Mb of server disk space. It may be necessary to edit entries under some circumstances.
  10. The Webmaster reserves to the right to close the Visitor Book. The time period of the closure is at the discretion of the Webmaster.
  11. The Webmaster reserves the right to vary this AUP at any time.
