calling-from:
Concord, CA. USA

greeting:
This is the best kind of football in existence. As a diehard American football fan, I must say it's great to see this wonderful sport has achieved an international level of popularity. Now, what comes next. To convince those people who think "soccer" is the real football that "American Football" is the ultimate sport. There can be only one kind of "Football" and it's definitely not the sport who can't decide on which name they'd like: soccer or football!!!!
Horses for courses!
I am not one who considers sports to be mutually exclusive - after all, look at the number of NFL players who also play baseball, sometimes at the highest level. American football is actually in decline here, for more info read the page about Britball. Soccer is absolutely dominant here. I think it's fruitless to argue that one game is "better" than other, they are different and appeal to different people. If American football in the UK is to set up in some kind of competition with soccer, or rugby or any other sport, it will lose out. The Senators' greatest gains have been through co-operation.

greeting:
Excellent site guys. I'm sorry to see the decline of this great sport, I've been a fan for more than 10 years now.
Its amazing that some of the people I used to go to Ninian Park to watch, in the Cardiff Tigers' hey days, are still playing now. I play alongside some of them at the Tiger Bay Warriors, where I'm a DT. You never know, our teams might meet one day!
Good luck next season!

greeting:
Great site. Good to see such a well produced advert for British Football. Comiserations on your semi-final defeat, if it is any consolation Redbrige were far superior to Nottingham in the final on Sunday, you would have beaten them easily. The two games you played against us were the most physical we played this season and as a team we thought you were the best team in the division. Lets hope we have two equally tough games next year but with different results.
Mark Lamen - Offensive Co-Ordinator Merseyde Nighthaks
Thanks Mark! See you next year.
Werner Kliewer (wkliewer@pangea.ca)
Fri Aug 29 02:26:40 1997
calling from: Winnipeg, Canada

Greeting:
It has been a very hectic summer here, and I'm not one to respond often in any case, but I had to write to congratulate the Senators on an excellent season. They have obviously grown in skill and confidence and showed even in the Semi-final that they are competitive with any team in the country.
Thank-you for keeping me posted. I have truly enjoyed reading about the games. Our beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers are going through another of what are euphemistically called "re-building" years. They season is only half over, but already the playoffs are out of reach. While 6 of the eight teams in the CFL have achieved some level of parity, former powerhouses Hamilton and Winnipeg would certainly face being relegated in a multi-tier league.
Once again, congratulations to the Gateshead Senators. Next year the championship.

greeting:
To Gary Marshall: Remember an old linebacker/coach from the Leeds Cougars 1988-1991? Just cruizin' the net here to see how football is doing in the U.K.. Needless to say, nohing like the peak '88-92' seasons I think. Interesting in your review of football you mention other variables that contributed to the demise of american football, yet you didn't mention the americans themselves. I felt in '91 and still do that the american players and coaches got much to greedy and outspent the game. Not to worry, I'm glad to here the Senators are still going strong. I enjoyed my time there, even married a Wetherby native so we visit the U.K. regularly. Keep up the good work in Gateshead!
So long, 55 Dan Moore

The team's web page is well designed, and looks really professional your coaching staff deserve a pat on the back for the good job that they are doing with the team, especially Chip Buttery, Dave Annandale ( I think that's how you spell it) but can't you try to make a player out of Rob Lake, so that when he coaches us at the Demons next year he does a good job!!!!!!
Good luck for the rest of the season, and I hope you stuff the Nighthawks again

Hello and great page!! I played in the Budweiser league in 87'and 88'. In fact the first game I ever played in the U.K. was against the senators but i think you were the New Castle Senators then. When I left England in 88' I at that time held the all-time sack record for the Budweiser league with 16.5 sacks in one season and I shared the all-time record for most sacks in a game a I think 5.5. I was wondering if these records are still kept and if you could tell me how i could get a copy, and of course I am curious to see if my bragging rights have been taken. Keep up the hard work and never take the great game of football for granted!!!

Hello, British footballers. Hey, guys, keep the faith and enjoy the sport you're in. It's the greatest on earth -- those soccer people are justified in being threatened. There is no other sport on earth that tests your intelligence, your toughness, your dicipline, and your "animalism" like this sport. And not everyone is mentally tough enough to play it and be good at it, which is another reason to be proud of yourselves. And besides, what other sport allows you to do things to other people for which you would normally be arrested? :) Keep it up, fellas!!
