Just a couple of things I wanted to say,
  1. congrats to Mr Parry, well done son.
  2. Thanks once again to the Senators for holding the awards night at a time I can not attend !!!
    (Not a happy bear)
  3. Can all the Senators' players with connections to the university teams please do every one a favour and grow up. The whole point of us helping out the uni teams is to raise the standard of the players who are on those teams, and then hopefully recruit a few from time to time.
It may be a bit hard to swallow for some of the "I'm harder than hard" old school boys but 4 years ago the senators nearly passed away as a top team in this country, and had it not been for the student intake we would have all ended up playing for Tees Valley (And I don't think I need to say any more on that one) :o)
I'm not just putting this down to Senators who are playing uni football, this also stands for those "players" coaching aswell, sort it before it gets out of hand & starts affecting everything we have built in the last 4 years.
Anyone not happy with my comments, tough - you can see me at the game Sunday or email me.
love Bear.

As for myself I remember a kick-off return not a punt return?? I also had at least 2 sacks against the Rams?? Unfortunately the rushing stats of 2 for 4 & 1 TD are correct!!
Anyway they definitely can't be right as 'The Woot' isn't leading tackler!!

We were pretty much left out on an island the whole game marking 2 pretty good WRs 1on1. He never gave an inch, was as calm as you like and took it in his stride, It was like he'd played the position all his life, never mind 12 months. I think both me and Dave Wilson commented to each other that this kid was good, real good. He's grown from there. Not just a great player but a top lad too....... 'Baby Faced Assassin'........ Here's my thoughts on a thing or two, I've got no problems with people going to teams closer to them, I think it has been extraordinary that we've had the catchment area we have had, this has been down to our excellent coaching staff, if for any reason people are unhappy with an organisation surely it is better to sort it out rather than split a very successful team in two. Gents, it wont work! If we can't support one good team with local talent......, remember the "Tigers", "Grays", "Presidents", "Cougars" - anyone think that those organisations were a success?

To all those older players thinking of calling it a day, don't just walk away; become a coach and pass on that vast knowledge you have gained over the years to the younger players.
It will be a shame not to have Orlando on the sideline at the Senators' next season, he will be a big miss but I will save to tabs, good luck at the Rams.

Another season ended too early!!
Offense - Great job all season of putting up enough points to allow the Defense the odd 'lapse'. We lost a few regulars on the O line in the last few years - myself, Eric & probably the best lineman/player in Mr Riley. In no small part thanks to Little Kev, a solid group. Doesn't matter how good a RB is (and Mr French is one of the best!!) you don't get over 1,500 yards in a 10 game season without good blocking!!
Glad to see Mr Fraser back with his family & Nimmins must own the record for most comebacks in a single season!!
Defense - I meant what I said, I've been a Senator for a lot of years & this is possibly the youngest & most talented Defense I've seen!! We have shown some Awesome displays of 'Unbreakable' Defense in games/drives, we just need to stop some of the silly mistakes & stay focused!!
This Defense has 'Potential Greatness', but remember that just means we haven't achieved Greatness - yet!!
Coach Sloan - I have the utmost respect for the way you stuck to your guns & did things your way!! Thanks for all the effort you have put in on your own time outside of gameday/practice. Thanks Coach for letting me be a part of this Defense.
Orlando - Thanks for all your help over the last few years, I've certainly learned something from you. You have shown great knowledge & patience, which I'm sure has help these young Kids play with a bit more experience!!
Richie 'Clown Feet' Cowell - I'm truly gutted mate, really sorry to hear you're moving on, but I wish you all the best. I remember you coming down to train with us at Blaydon for a year before you were old enough to play senior ball. I can remember thinking that this scrawny little kid wasn't going to last very long, how wrong I was!!
You jumped straight into Div 1 football like you'd been playing for years. You will be a great miss as a player & a family member, stay in touch.
I know a few of us will be moving on, calling it a day & a few will have to have a long think about the future. But I'm sure this was the sort of team Coach Marshall & the rest of us had in mind when we requested to drop a division to 'rebuild', lets take a step or 2 further next season!!
Hope to see you all on Friday.

My special thanks has to go Big Kev for coming and coaching the O-line. You have brought structure and purpose to our training sessions and I can only see us improving. I know that we're a bunch of know-it-all fools but you've done a hell of a job. And hopefully we'll be able to squeeze one more 'one last season' out of Rapper.
I could sit here and thank every player for their contributions to the club but we all know the role that each of us has played this year and it would just drone on. What I would like to say as my final thanks is to all the rookies this year especially Frazz for stepping up and showing that a 13 stone idiot can block the best of them. Today's loss was even more poignant as it sees the last games for at least two people who have made immense contributions to the Senators over the last few seasons. Who knows how many others will feel its the right time to call it a day? The end of the season is always a tough day and one when many people reflect on their futures.
Firstly to Orlando Weekes who takes up the HC role at the Rams. You will be sadly missed here at Gateshead my friend not only for your football knowledge and savvy, but also for your great humour and occasional attacks of common sense. Good luck Lando. I am certain you will be a success.
Secondly its a farewell to the 'baby faced assassin' himself. Rich Cowell is off to live down south. The heart of a lion and the ability to bring down RBs twice his size made Rich a special player. A first choice CB who is one of the finest DBs I have had the pleasure of coaching and playing with. Good luck down south Rich. I sincerely hope you don't give up the game and land with some shandy drinking team down there. You are too good not to play.
To the rest of the team, there is no disgrace in losing today. The opposition are a very good team and will give anyone a run for their money. Today we held our own with them and are now justifiably ranked with the best in the country. If lessons are learnt from this season then this young team can go from strength to strength. The top is within your grasp.
Thanks for your efforts this season. Proud of you.

Next up East Kilbride, last regular game of the season, as usual our friends north of the boarder will be up for this game and we need to bring our A game to ensure we do not head south with a loss, get ready for a hard hitting game, remember the winner gets bragging rights and the looser get a long road trip to London.
See you all Sunday and make sure you come ready to play.

You guys are a credit to what is left of UK football, each time you turn out to play, you look like football players & act like a team (a throwback) to the good old days of Britball! over the years, you've remained true to the aqua / orange.. whilst many other teams have changed logos/colors/names etc.....
thank God there is still a team like the senators that looks like a football team.
i also have some experience of you guys.. having played on a few Cougar teams with Ducan French, played against Dave Wilson.. and beaten the junior team on more than one cold sunday afternoon. well Ive seena few games this year (from a far) my playing days are over but I still love to watch the game... especially the Titans..

It's always a sad day for me when a veteran decides to retire, especially so when that decision is taken out of their hands. I think we should never lose sight of the fact that this is a TEAM game and EVERYONE deserves to play as we all pay (some considerably more than others) to play this game we love. I hope I can persuade Mark not to retire as he offers so much to the organisation be it as a player or as a coach. It's a strange thing but you tend to pick up a lot of knowledge about the game when you have played for nearly 20 years; if this knowledge was used instead of ignored we would be a better team for it.

It is with great sadness that I write this to my Sunday family. Due to ever increasing work and personal commitments I have decided to call it a day on the playing front. Sunday gone, away at the Bulls, was my last game for the club.
I have made some tremendous friendships over the years, guys I've grown up with, seen married, divorced, become dads, trips to the States, stag do's, nights out.. oh and some cracking days out knocking heads on a Sunday with the family.
I simply can't give the team the commitment on the practice field to warrant game time, and I've always been one who harks on about if you don't train you shouldn't play. Well now I'm in that situation and I'd be a hypocrite if I changed my tune now.
So it's time to step aside and let the new breed take this team forward for another ten years.
We've some fantastic talent in the defensive backfield and in Richie 'The baby-faced assassin' Cowell, Ed, Ross, Matt and Dave, the secondary's left in safe hands. (And Coach... if you're stuck Davey Will is STILL the best DB I've ever played alongside, bar none.)
I know that this team's capable of getting to the semis minimum and getting this club back to where it truly belongs.....AT THE TOP!!!
Good Luck, and to the boys who I've grown up with in football since second year of Kenton School, Thanks guys.....Its been an amazing 19 years with the best mates a guy could wish for.

I won't be making the trip as I am taking the chance to play "Family Guy" with my enforced absence, but I will be there in spirit.
Thought the following was appropriate for Sunday and hopefully it can inspire you to "seize the day"
Senator version of the Agincourt speech.
Rather proclaim it, Bill, through the Team,
That he which has no stomach to this fight
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And fare to Gateshead put into his purse;
We would not play in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to play with us.
This day is called the Feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tiptoe when this game is mentioned,
And rouse him at the name of the Os.
He that shall play in this game, and live old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours
And say, 'Tomorrow is Saint Crispian'
Then will he strip his jersey and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had at Southwark Park'
Old men forget, yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What plays he made that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words -
Sloany, in his final game, Harra playing on one leg,
Mikey, with his ferocious hits, Rapper flowing over the field,
Our brothers from Holland giving their all,
And everyone playing both sides of the ball -
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son,
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered -
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers,
For he today that plays this game with me,
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in Gateshead now abed,
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

The re-emergence in my 19 year shoulder injury before pre-season, is not only affecting my usual training during the week, but my day to day activity & those who know me will have noticed Sunday how my on field performance has declined. This, along with my ever increasing work commitments, mean I can no longer give the time & dedication my Sunday Family deserves & has come to expect for me.
The pain of having to make this almost impossible decision is far greater than any injury I have lived, trained & played through in 2 decades of the Greatest Sport in the Universe!!
I will of course be there to watch the 'Best B**stard Team In The B**stard Land' against the Surge & at every game I possibly can. I'm going to speak to Coach Marshall at the Surge game about staying involved, because I'm not sure how I'm going to handle not playing, but I know I certainly couldn't cope with not being a part of this Family!!
There are guys on this team I known for over half my life from Rapper back when I 1st joined the Washington Wildcats some 20 odd years ago, to the likes of Mikey, Will, Fridge, Mark, Harra etc. back in days of the Senators Jnrs 15 odd years ago!! The friendships I've made have seen boys grow into men & everything from Marriages, Divorces, Births & alas Deaths!!
My hope is that this isn't the end as I still love this game & very much want to play. I still haven't played QB or Kicker/Punter in an official game yet or scored a TD!! Who knows, if I can get my shoulder back to full strength & things settle down at work maybe I can find a team that needs an ageing FB/TE!!

I had the pleasure of playing alongside both of these great guys with Griggy at the Presidents and Mickey at the Tigers.
I'm sorry it's been a year since Mik's death and I've not said anything. However, this is the first time I've visited this site since giving up the game in 97 and I've lost contact with all of my x team mates from the Presidents.
I will be at the game on the 17th and hope to catch up with a few of you again.
Being out of the loop as long as I have most of you won't have a clue who I am.
I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing :)
All I know is I miss the smells and sounds of the game and watching on TV is not the same.
Good luck for the season.

Now that the season for our unwashed contingent is at a end (commiseration to Leeds & Lancaster for yesterday) its time to get serious!!
