Message:
Sorry it has taken me so long to thank everybody for their kind thoughts and support, but I am still coming to terms with the loss of Mik. He was not only my husband but best buddy and soulmate. Your messages have given me great comfort and also reduced me to tears, but it was so nice to see that so many people took time out to post messages. As I have said to many people since the accident, he will be up there saying to me, "You see told you I was popular" - and I now know he was. Thanks again.
Debbie

Only just heard the news about Mick this Sunday. Has taken me a few days to pass condolences on as like all of us it came as a bit of a shock. I only knew him as a football player and that's how I'll remember him, as a competitor and a great source of changing room banter.
Rest in peace "Big Mick" #6

Sorry I wasn't at the game yesterday but Big Mik was not forgotten.
I was at the Claymores game which wasnt as exciting at the Bulls game sounded and I was approached by various fans expressing their condolences knowing I am a Senator. The thoughts came from Steve McCuster on behalf of the Claymores and from others involved in the game.
No doubt several of the Senators wore #6 in tribute and I had my Senator helmet with a large 6 on it on which I wore at Hampden proudly.

Probably the most emotional day of my life yesterday. First of all I'd like to thank the Bulls for the respect they showed during the pre-game silence in honour of Big Mik!! Not exactly the scoreline we wanted but considering we've never beaten the Bulls a 0-0 draw is a positive result. Great job by the 'D' following on from their outstanding performances last season, some good work on special teams also. Still a lot to do though so lets see EVERYONE at training on Sunday. I'm sure the Big Guy was proud of the determination & heart shown by ALL yesterday!!

Guys, just read about the tragic loss of Mickey. All previous banter and nonsense aside, I felt the need to offer my condolences for your loss. I remember Mickey as a guy I always had good banter with in the couple of times we went head to head. He was a solid baller, and came across as an even better person. It's never good when we (the football fraternity) lose one of our own, and something like this puts many other things into perspective. I feel your hurt, and hope my comments aren't seen to be out of turn. I just felt the need to say something, and acknowledge one of the game's truly nice guys. His family and friends are in my prayers, as are you all.
Rest in Peace Mickey. Much Love.

Words cannot express my sadness when I heard the news about Big Mik. I have not known Mik for as long as others but it still has hit me hard. Nothing I can write can add to the esteem this man was held in his family, friends, colleagues and Sunday Family.
I first met Mik when the Senators had a scrimmage with the Presidents; needless to say it wasn't a friendly in the true sense of the word. I remember when I first joined the Senators we discussed this scrimmage, Mik said "I remember you, you looked the part" and left it at that, for a long time I thought Mik didn't like me, it wasn't the case he just didn't respect me, I had shown him nothing on the field of play to earn his respect.
I now believe that has changed, the last 2 season we played together I was often greeted with words of praise or a hand shake when I came off the field, it is gestures like that which make a man, you don't need medals or trophies to be a winner, praise from people who play hard, train hard and are real team players mean more to me than anything else.
I will play this season as a mark of respect for this great man, I want to leave the field of play after every down, every play and every quarter knowing that had he been watching I would have earned the praise and the welcome hand shake from a man and player I respected.
Rest in peace Big Mik

Well what can I add to this, from a guy I have known since I was a very young 16yr old playing at Tyneside. I stole most of the big boy's first set of kit. He has been the only person who could ever keep my feet on the ground in football, otherwise he you know. A true genuine guy in every sense. My thoughts go out to his wife Deb and family . You may have gone but you will never be forgotten big lad. I know you will be there with us on Sunday, keeping my feet on the ground. REST IN PEACE BIG MIK #6....

In our game, each Team sticks together through thick and thin, through the good and the bad. At the moment this must be a bad. Although I didn't know Mik, I am sure he was a good player and a good friend. When you played us, and beat us convincingly, you showed how the game should be played. Fairly, with passion and commitment. You have now gone up a Division, so we won't be playing you this season. Just play the game the Senators way, and dedicate your season to Mik. Sorry fellas and good luck.

I think I speak for everyone who ever played football or even knew BIG MIK when I say that deep down inside we all wished we could play the game with only a fraction of the heart he did, I know whenever he was around I and others would always try to play that little bit harder I guess because you didn't want to look soft in front of the smallest man on the pitch.
I think when we play our next game we should all take a bit of Mik's attitude with us.
"NO ONE RUNS OVER BIG MIK" that's the lasting memory I have of him cos they are the words we all heard him mutter whenever he walked past a player he had just decked.
Rest in peace Mik. Bear

It means so much and helps a lot at this sad time to know how well liked Mik was. Mik always pushed me and hounded me to play and I thank him for that as my time with my Sunday family was some of the best of my life, and if it wasn't for Mik I would have missed out on so much. So thanks Mik, you may have been an aggravating wind-up merchant but you were my BEST FRIEND, sadly missed but never, ever forgotten.

P.S. I have spoken to Debbie and she has the same feelings as me regarding Sunday's match. Mik would have wanted you all to play so play and WIN this one for the BIG Fella. Thanks.
