I would just like to add my condolences to all of Mik's family & the Senators Sunday Family from a guy who played with & against a player who's height was the only small thing about this "Cannie Lad". The Lord must be in real trouble to have called on Big Mik for a hand. Again please accept all our prayers from the Kyriacou family.

On behalf of everyone here at the Senators can I express our thanks for the many messages posted here and on the Senators web site concerning Mickey Thompson.
I am very proud to be associated with a Sport like ours where Team differences and rivalries can be put to one side at a time like this.
We will make sure that all the messages are passed onto Mick's wife and family so they can see the high regard in which he was held by the 'Britball Community'.
Big Mick was a true Team Player in every sense of the word, playing where ever he was needed and always giving 110%. If you could bottle what he had in terms of strength of character and determination, you could produce a team of world beaters in any sport! He was also someone I would want in my corner if things got tough - he stood up for himself and his mates and never let you down. We are all poorer for his passing and we will not forget him!
Mick also had a side to him that not many Football people knew about, in his work at Wansbeck Hospital he showed the caring side to his charcter and the determination to be the best he could be. I am sure that there are many patients, Doctors and fellow nurses who would testify to his cheerful disposition, lively sense of humour and all round 'good crack'.
The church will be packed for his funeral service on Tuesday where his 'Sunday Family' will be able to pay their respects along with the many others who knew and loved him.
Deb, his wife, has asked for family flowers only. Donations in lieu can be sent to

The posts and tributes from other teams in this Senators and ''Miks'' Familys darkest hour is extremely appreciated. I'm very proud to have met and to have known him, if you didn't you have missed a fantastic Man. I remember the Qtr finals against Brighton a few years back, he was a gem on defense and a warrior on special teams- he was a key figure on the field and off in all games and especially the semi-final against Redbridge- when we made a unbelieveable come back that fell a little short.
I can't express my sorrow enough.
I'll never forget him.
Eric

The one thing you need to know about Mickey is that he punched way above his weight, he had the heart of a lion and the courage of three, if Mickey had been the same size as me he would have been ferocious, as it was he was more than a handfull at any position he played, even on the "O" line on occasion, i wear a 75 on my shirt in rememberence of a true giant, John Grigg. This year it will be joined by Mickeys number, every inch a giant!
All the best to all my Sunday family members and all those who play this great sport of ours

Thanks Guys,
Big Mik was the perfect example that you don't have to be the biggest football player in the world to be one toughest. Every time he got knocked down he'd come back twice as hard the nexted time.
He will be greatly missed as a team mate & as a friend.
