Here is some information on local schemes to encourage children to walk to school. It has been put together by Maidenhead & District Friends of the Earth.
This is a "bus" of children, with supervisory adults, who walk to school each morning over a set route, picking up children as they go. The route is retraced in the opposite direction at the end of the school day.
The first scheme locally, involving 20-25 families at Courthouse Junior School, was organised by Maidenhead & District Friends of the Earth, with some support from Windsor & Maidenhead Borough Council.
This pilot scheme is now entering its second year.
