The Great Glen Cycle route traverses Scotland, from coast to coast.
The route is divided into various sections, each with its own degree of difficulty. Some sections are real mountain bike terrain, while other flat sections can be tackled on a loaded mountain bike.
The route makes use of the Caledonian Canal towpathes, and forestry trails high above Loch Ness. The route is well signposted, and information points are provided before and after each section, outlining the degrees of difficulty.
Prevailing winds generally come from the South to the North. It is advisable to take this into consideration when planning a longer tour, as we can certainly get some strong breezes !
The local Forest Enterprise ( the main land owner on the route ) initiated a partnership to enable the route to exist. As such, the route passes through working forest environments.
Respect warning signs, and keep clear of any forest work and machinery.
