A piece that was first related to a theme that has long fascinated me - the relationship between mathematical forms and sculpture. This is loosely based on a Lissajous figure, which is obtained by combining two or more sine waves at varying phases and frequencies. The Lissajous figures can take an infinite variety of beautiful forms and movements in time and space.
This abstract is an attempt to combine the mathematical purity
of a simple Lissajous figure with the strong grain pattern
of the elm wood - which, like all woods, is highly variable
in the log.
A movie (350Kb) is available for this sculpture which gives a better three-dimensional impression.
