Me and friend (I'm the one without the beard.) Akureyri, Iceland 2002.
I was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire in 1944. We moved to Chelmsford, Essex in 1949 and
attended St.Cedds School from 1950 to 1955 when we moved to
Watford in Hertfordshire in 1955 where I attended Watford Grammar School.
In 1959 we moved on to Emsworth near Portsmouth where I attended Purbrook Park High School.
I left school in 1962 and started work as a laboratory technician at John Wyeth and Brother in Havant, Hants. In
1964 I joined Laporte Titanium Ltd near Grimsby when I studied for HNC in chemistry at Grimsby College of Further
Education. In 1967 I moved on and was employed at the Admiralty in Weymouth until
I moved on to Southampton where I was employed as a Process Chemist for Borden
Chemicals near Southampton until September 2000. When the company decided they were going to relocate and had no
use for someone with 30 years experience and who was willing to do there job properly and made me redundant, I decided
to take early retirement. I married Christine in 1969 in Milborne Port, Somerset and we have one son, Robert who is
married to Pam and we have three grandchildren, Harriet born in December 1994, Nicholas born in January 1997 and Joe
born in November 2000. We currently live in Welshpool on the Welsh borders which lies some 20miles west of Shrewsbury. Having
recently recovered from major surgery I am now enjoying life to the full in this quiet beautiful part of Wales, with watercolour painting, DIY jobs, keeping
fit and gardening as well as future projects such as re-doing my whole website and thoughts of a model railway layout.
Really where did I find time to go to work!
