ABOUT US

Launched in 1997 HISTORY IN THE MAKING produces embroidery kits to allow you to to make beautiful embroidered objects that can also be treasured as family heirlooms.

All kits come with full instructions and for most of them the only tool you will need are a pencil and a pair of scissors.

All images on the site are scans of the completed samplers.

ALPHABET SAMPLER KIT

This cross stitch kit was inspired by the samplers worked by young girls in the Victorian era.

It is suitable for all skill levels and would also be suitable for older children. It allows you to add your own initials and the year so making it a traditional family heirloom.

KIT OPTIONS

Option B - Evenweave 22 count

Hardanger fabric.

The evenweave will give the most traditional result. Aida fabric is recommended for beginners.

Cross stitch is the only stitch used in this design.

BABY GIRL BIRTH SAMPLER KIT

This cross stitch kit is designed to commemorate the birth of a baby girl. It would make an ideal gift for a christening, first Christmas or even first birthday. Send us the details of the baby’s name, date of birth and weight and we will produce a customised kit with full instructions.

It is suitable for all skill levels including older children.

When ordering please request one of the two options below :-

Option A - Aida 11 count fabric.

Option B - Evenweave 22 count

Hardanger fabric.

The evenweave will give the most traditional result. Aida fabric is recommended for beginners.

Cross stitch, and a small amount of back stitch, are the only stitches used in this design.

The kits contain Anchor threads, Zweigart fabrics, a cross stitch needle, a colour computerised chart and full instructions.

GREETING CARD KIT

Handmade greetings cards are the best way to show how much you care. These kits offer an ideal introduction to the techniques of blackwork and beadwork. The card mounts are blank for your own message so are therefore suitable for Birthdays, Mothers Day, Thank You etc.

All options have a finished design size of approx 5cm square and a card mount size of 15 x 11cm. All designs are stitched on 14 count Aida fabric. The kits contain Anchor threads Zweigart fabrics, cross stitch needle, card mount and envelope. In addition the beadwork kit contains embroidery seed beads, beading needle and thread.

Projects in the pipeline include:

Family tree sampler.

This sampler would make an ideal gift for a child of any age, it would even make an unusual 18th Birthday gift. It shows parents and grandparents, with dates of birth, place of birth and occupations. It will become a treasured family heirloom as well as a piece of social history. The sampler is available as a kit or a chart pack and is stitched in a combination of cross stitch and blackwork. You supply the family details and we will produce a customised chart or kit.

Wedding anniversary greetings cards.

Silver, Ruby and Golden wedding cards will be available soon. They are stitched using specialist threads such as Anchor marlitt and metallics and also incorporate beadwork. The kits also include card mounts with a heart shaped aperture. They will allow you to make very beautiful greetings cards that will be much admired and also try out new threads and techniques.

The 1997 Sampler.

Was 1997 a special year for your family? This would make an ideal gift for a 1st Birthday or 1st Wedding Anniversary. It commemorates the main news events of 1997 and also sporting occasions, famous personalities and even popular films.

It has a central section for you to personalise the sampler with names and dates and if you send us your details we will produce a customised kit for you.
