FOALLY
CDs now available at www.foally.co.uk! All profits going to the Dreams Come True and Disability Shetland charities.
There are 19 in S6 and the group is taking part in an annual Youth Enterprise venture. They set up a business (theirs is Foally Records) and produce, market and sell their product/s. Normally when the business is wound up later in the following year, any profits are split between those in the business. This year, because Foally feel that most of them haven't actually produced the
music involved, they've decided that ALL the profits will go to charity.
They've decided on one local and one national charity - Disability Shetland and the Dreams Come True which tries to allow children with terminal illnesses to fulfill their dearest wishes.
It's taken Foally a bit longer to get everything organised than they hoped. (bear in mind they're also studying Highers and Advanced Highers!)
Each artist/band had to be contacted and written permission given for the use of their track. They would have liked to have had the CDs in hand and the website sorted *before* the URL and publicity started but that's life/business! They hope to get the CDs from the manufacturer south any day now and what they've been doing is taking pre-orders.
They've already got orders for a few hundred and the business already has a healthy bank balance what with some people paying up front, from Foally selling advertising space and from them doing bag packing at a supermarket. Of course the cost of producing the run of 1,000 CDs will have to come from that.
However, they are pleased now to announce that the CD is now ready for dispatch to the discerning public...
The Foally website - well, his mum tried to stay out of it, but has recently mentioned one or two things to Chris, but it's entirely up to him and the group what he does with them. With the Young Enterprise ventures it's very much a case of them making their own decisions about how they run their business, although they do have some support if they need it.
Bear in mind that, while it's good that they get experience of business and e-commerce, this is a school venture for charity and the main aim is to sell the CDs whilst also promoting local Shetland musicians.
