This is what can happen if you forget to
check your tyre pressures before going on a long trip. The rear right had a slow
puncture and I usually pumped it back up every weekend. Of course, the one time I forgot
was when we'd driven down to London to pick up the mother-in-law then head out on the A40/M40
towards Oxford... just a few miles outside London and BANG! flap flap flap
flap... that was the end of that tyre! I thought the car had been feeling a little
sluggish, but hadn't managed to put my finger on why until then! The tyre was so hot, we
had to wait at the side of the road for it to cool down for a while before I could get hold of
it to swap it over for the spare. Anyway, at least it gave me an excuse to get some
shiny, new whitewalls!
