• “In loving memory of Lily, beloved daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Smith of Knaresborough, who died October 4th 1882 aged 1 year and 4 months. Also of the above named Joseph Smith, who died Feb. 20th 1908 aged 47 years. Also of Elizabeth, wife of the above named Joseph Smith, born October 8th 1849/8 (?), died October 3rd 1925. Also Amy Turner, daughter of the above, born 23rd Aug 1890, died 5th May 1977.” (mostly readable - Elizabeth’s year of birth not clear in photo though)

In the shadows of his wings there is rest.” (readable, but bird splat right over the 2nd digit of his age and I didn’t fancy cleaning it off!)

The lord himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, and the dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive shall be caught up together with them in clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thess. 4.16.17.”

Also their devoted daughters Maud Mary Wheelhouse died March 22nd 1969 aged 73, Dorothy Wheelhouse died February 23rd 1966 aged 68, Beatrice Noble Harris (nee Wheelhouse) died December 19th 1992 aged 90, and her beloved husband Herbert F. P. Harris died February 21st 1977 aged 75.” (on two identical shaped, new-looking stones next to each other, next to an older one as follows :)

Also of Richard Sturdy, of Riverside, Knaresborough, died June 26th 1913, aged 76 years. Resting in hope. Also of Elizabeth, his wife, died Feb. 5th 1915, aged 79 years. Also of Alice, beloved wife of Frank Sturdy, died Jan. 3rd 1942, aged 77 years. Also Francis Sturdy died February 9th 1946 aged 83 years. And of Francis, son of Francis & Mary Sturdy, died September 21st 1997 aged 62 years. Erected by her daughter E Sturdy. Holdsworth 281.” (and just behind these :)
