Spofforth/Follifoot/Sowerby/Sessay Monumental Inscriptions
Many of my ancestors came from these areas. Of particular interest to me are the surnames (in no particular order) :- Smith, Wheelhouse, Wright,
Deighton, Richardson, Metcalfe, Pullan, Harrison, Dobson and Thompson. On 26th/27th August, 2004, I spent another couple of days wandering around
the churchyards of Spofforth, Follifoot, Sowerby and Sessay, photographing every gravestone I could find with any of these names on (plus a couple
of others which caught my eye for some reason), then later transcribed them as below. It is not a complete, exhaustive list (far from it!), I
deliberately skipped the modern-looking gravestones to save time and because I was mainly interested in the older ones for my family tree research.
If you think any of these are part of your family tree, I will gladly provide copies of the photos I took, via email (they're all digital in JPEG
format, originals are approx. 800kb each, but I can reduce the size a bit if you are concerned about the download time).
Contact details are on my home page.
