I first became involved with Derby Children's Friendship Group (D.C.F.G.) in 1995. During the school summer holidays the group take children on a camping holiday. There are 5 weeks of camping holidays split up into individual weeks, these have camp leaders and ALL the adults are volunteers who give up their time and patience to look after the children. They make sure they are safe on and off camp, organize activities on camp, supervise them when they do off camp activities. I cannot give you an itinerary for obvious reasons, but the children enjoy themselves and are very rarely bored (the adults have a lot of fun as well). The children and a lot of the adults have tears in their eyes when it is time to return home and say good-bye. You can bet that the children all want to come back again next year, but alas the group have no control which children go to camp, this is left up to the schools to pick the children.
