Recipe
- 100 g yellow or red lentils (thoor or mysore dhal)
- green chillies - 2
- garlic - 2 cloves
- cabbage - 150 g
- pinch of turmeric
- cumin powder - 1 tsp
- pepper - 3/4 tsp
- salt
- ghee - 1 tsp or oil
- 2 dried chillies - (torn into bits)
- onion - 1 large, sliced
- mustard seeds 1/2
Method
- Wash & soak lentils in warm water for 30 mins.
- Slice green chillies and peel garlic. Shred cabbage finely.
- Boil lentils with 1 1/2 cup water, green chillies, garlic and a pinch of turmeric until lentils are soft. Drain of extra water.
- Add cabbage, cumin, pepper and salt till cabbage is cooked.
- In a separate pan, melt ghee, add chilli bits, onion slics and mustard seeds. Fry or cook till onion and chilli are browned.
- Add the fried onions to the cabbage dish, stir well.
Note: When I cook this dish I omit the cumin and pepper.
