An online search for Charles Sorley turned up several references to Charles Hamilton Sorley, WW1 war poet, whose father was Professor William Ritchie Sorley. I'm fairly sure this must be the same person. In particular, see http://www.library.utoronto.ca/utel/rp/authors/sorley.html

W married Janneta SMITH, daughter of George SMITH and Janet ADAM, before 1900. (Janneta SMITH died after 1931.)
