Castletown & The South

From ancient times, until the 19th Century Castletown was the Capital of the Isle Of Man. The power of the Lord Of Man was maintained by the garrison housed in the castle. The castle stands today, one of the best preserved examples of Norman architecture in the world.

Today the castle is a museum, with exhibits showing life as it would have been inside the castle during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Castle Rushen & The Harbour

The castle originally stood at the mouth of the Silverburn river, but is now about 100yards (100m) back from the coastline. It stands right on the Quayside in the very centre of the town.
