TARBAT NESS
The final Frontier
Those well known words are very apt for this location. As you stand looking eastwards there is only a faint shoreline to be seen to your left, the Sutherland and Caithness shoreline, past Golspie, Brora and Helmsdale. To your right a similar view along the north Morayshire coast towards Banff and Peterhead.
Take it from me that you will not be standing there when a north easterly gale, or even half gale, is blowing. You will be scurrying for shelter just like me!
Mind you there is nothing more bracing !! Having been brought up on the east coast, the smell of the sea - salty air, full of the smell of ozone - seems to me to be even better than the west coast with all of its warm weather and seaweed. And if it is raining, well I don't have to spell that out to you.
Tarbat Ness Lighthouse is behind you.
