Craigard Hotel Game Fishing
The Spey valley offers everything keen anglers enjoy about fishing in the highlands of Scotland. From small remote hill lochs where the little 'Wild Bownies' come readily to the fly and then fight like three pounders through to the mighty rivers Lossie and Spey. Rightly renowned as probably Scoltand's finest Salmon river the Spey is wide and fast flowing with strong currents and deep pools.
We are pleased to offer guests at Craigard access to a range of private waters on the Spey including the renowned Kinchurdy and Upper Castle Grant Fishings. The Abernethy Association enjoys a truly enviable 6.5 miles of double bank Spey fishing which last year yielded 71 Salmon at and average weight of 10lbs, 67 Grilse at average weight 4lbs, 109 Sea Trout at average weight 3lbs and of course Wild Brown Trout in very much larger numbers. Craigard also enjoys preferential access to a number of nearby trout lochs where both bank and boat fishing can be enjoyed.

Our full time Gillie has an in depth knowledge of the local area and can offer good advice on tackle, and choice of water We offer fully accompanied fishing on the river and Spey Casting lessons at both beginner and advanced levels. The river can be difficult in parts and we recommend that unaccompanied anglers ensure that they have a wading stick and appropriate safety equipment with them at all times.
Craigard has a secure rod store, drying rooms, and freezer. A limited range of trout and salmon flies can be purchased at the hotel and a small range of waterproof clothing and equipment is available for emergencies. We offer a range of pack lunches and picnic hampers that can help keep hunger at bay. A much wider range of equipment, clothing and tackle can be leased or purchased locally in the village.
Beginners and children are well catered for at the nearby Rothiemurchus fisheries where over the course of a couple of days the new angler can develop their technique on safe well stocked trout water.
Craigard also offers a one or two day fly fishing 'master class' with Jim Coutts. Jim is author of the authoratative Fishing Scotland guide books. Lessons are provided on Jim's own private waters, which are located about 45 mins drive from Craigard. This is very much a 'come as you are day' as Jim will provide all clothing and equipment required. We understand that the picnic lunches are a particularly popular feature of a day out with Jim.
