Because the Space Physics unit is squashed into the last few weeks of the course, it is usually skimmed over quite superficially. This is a shame since it is easily one of the most inspiring areas of study!
At present, the best way for you to take your interest in astronomy forward will be to join the astronomy club. We meet each Thursday after school until 5:30 p.m. If the weather is clear, we go out and observe (constellations and planets) using binoculars and a 4 inch refracting telescope. If the weather is cloudy, we work away indoors on our 6 inch reflecting telescope. This project is in an advanced stage - as of January 2001, the tube is nearly finished and we have started construction of the mount.
To remedy this, if you take physics you will have the chance to meet in the evenings after school on several occasions throughout the winter months. The times and places will be arranged once the Simmer Dim is past - look back here or ask Mr. McGinlay.
