The fundraising appeal's main event
was a Charity Night Out on March 7th, 2000. All proceeds from the event, indeed
the total monies raised, will be equally split between the Meningitis Trust and
the Disney Ward of Scunthorpe General Hospital.
The party included a disco, a 'pie & peas' supper and live entertainment
provided by the excellent Mash. A raffle of a huge amount of prizes,
including a portable television and a midi Hi-Fi, kindly donated by local
companies, took take
place too. Tickets for the event were £5 each and included the supper. They
could be obtained through the contact form or via email and the
response for the tickets was amazing, with the event being a total sell
out! £1700 was raised on the charity night (after expenses),
and another £2200 has been raised from other donations so far.
Companies who supplied raffle prizes included Asda, The Wortley Hotel
(Scunthorpe), Boots and Record Village (Scunthorpe). Monetary
donations came from such companies as Inter GB plc, R & A Kay
Inspection, Motherwell Bridge, Jefco and Lindsey Oil Refinery. Two
parachute jumps, one by Anya's uncle Gavin O'Connor and another by friend
of the family Julian Hobley, have raised further money. An auction is
currently ongoing for some football memorabilia. Items to bid on
include a Newcastle United shirt, a Liverpool football, a Sheffield
Wednesday football, a Watford United football and a Scunthorpe United
football, each of which is signed by the current team. Bids may be
made via the form.
Anya's plight, and its associated cause, has brought a great deal of support
already, and we hope to go a long way yet.
